Introduction

I had the pleasure of recording on all the Matrix albums. Those are discussed in the discography of Chapter 12. I was especially honored to be featured on a duet with John Harmon on Wizard, his beautiful ballad “Come September.” Later in my career, besides the Matrix reunion album, it was also fun to play on a couple of the cuts on Madison-based (now in Washington, D.C.) pianist Tim Whalen’s 2008 Nonet album Magnus, which was recorded in four sessions live at the now closed Restaurant Magnus in Madison. Even more fun, in the summer of 2018 I played on my son’s big band album: Paul Dietrich Jazz Ensemble, featuring Clarence Penn, Forward, along with many fine Wisconsin and Chicago musicians.
